Shamma woke up to her phone ringing. "UGH! can't someone sleep on their birthday" she whined.
"It's not your birthday anymore, get up baba wants to talk to you" her sister said as she opened the curtains to expose the sun light, closed the AC and left the door open as she left.
Shamma got up grumpy as she saw it was 8.30AM, took a shower, got ready and headed down for breakfast with the family. As she made it down, she saw everyone seated, even her best friends looking so tired from last night, good it's not only me she smiled at them. After breakfast she was asked by her father to come with him to his office. Allah yester she thought, she could sense something was wrong.
Mohammed, Shamma's dad was very nervous, he didn't know how to tell his daughter what was on his mind the past few days. He took a deep breath and started talking, leaving Shamma shocked and speechless. She did not expect it at all, she always thought she'd have her own story of falling in love with her prince, getting to know him, get married and live happily every after. Shamma haven't thought about getting married or fall in love since she saw all of her sisters fall in love and married the man they loved, she also know that love will come to her without knocking, that was the reason she haven't tried so hard but now her father was telling her about this man she never even knew existed proposed to her. Shamma left the office not knowing what to say or think, so many thoughts were racing her mind.
She directly went to the sea, where she always forgets everything. we went in when it was time for lunch, took a shower, changed and prayed and stayed in her room lost in her thoughts.
On the lunch table
"Where is Shamma?"
"I'm sure she's either diving or on the jetski" everyone knows how she loves the sea
Shamma's mother on the other stand got worried, she knew what Mohammed wanted to tell their daughter.
"Maha 7abeebty roo7i shofi wain Shamma" said the mother in a worried tone
"InshAllah"
Maha knocked the door couple of times but Shamma haven't heard them. Maha then got in and saw Shamma sitting on the chair looking lost, she rushed to her concerned
"What's wrong?"
"What isn't?" she sighed
"Tell me 7abeebty, I hate seeing you like this"
"I will, just give me some time"
"Let's go have lunch, then tell us what's bothering you"
Shamma nodded and followed Maha to the dining table. She barely ate anything and everyone noticed but kept quiet. They all went and spent their afternoon by the beach, they were in groups; the elder women sat in the gazebo having their afternoon tea and chatting, the girls in another gazebo that is in front of the swimming pool and the little kids wearing their swim suits, building castles and playing by the shore.
"Shamma"
"Hmm" She replied absent mind
"What's wrong?"
She turned around at see everyone staring at her curious to know what she's about to say
"Well I'm getting married" she faked a smile
They all got excited and closer to hear what she has to say
"What's his name?"
She shrugged in response, not knowing her future husband's name. They kept on asking her endless questions.
"I will tell you everything I know about him"
Mariam got the popcorn closer to her, Maha crossed her legs and the others put down their phones, lowered the volume of the music, not wanting to miss a single detail...
"This is what I know about him, he saw me last week at baba's majlis, he's from country X.."
Maha interrupted with teary eyes "So you'll be living there?"
"Yes.."
"Kamlee, we want to know more"
"I will, stop interrupting and listen. He went to the royal military academy (Sandhurst), just finished his PHD degree, he's 32 years old and I hate him"
"WHAAAT!"
"He's 32?"
"He's old"
"I hate him too!"
"I'm not done yet" She laughed
"We've heard enough"
"He's married and has two children, and I can't reject him" Shamma sighed not knowing what to do.
She needs a miracle to get out of this marriage.
